Tool Picker
Five short questions about your work. We rank tools on their official specs only. The brand never enters the score.
How we choose
- The weight of each factor comes from your answers only: your job sets how much torque matters (drill drivers) or tightening torque (impact drivers), and how you hold the tool sets how much weight matters.
- Before ranking, we leave out tools below a minimum torque or tightening torque for the category, calculated from the spread of tools in that category (not a number we made up).
- The ranking is relative: each number is compared with the top number among the tools in the comparison, the same way the ring does it.
- If a key value is not published by the maker, we leave the tool out and tell you. If a minor value is missing, we calculate without it and mark the tool. We never guess a number.
- The brand never enters the score. The batteries you own are a condition from you that limits the tools, not a ranking. If two tools tie, we put the lighter first, then the stronger, and if they still tie we show them together.
- Battery size (Ah) goes into the weight with battery: tool weight plus an official battery of the same size on its platform. We do not calculate run time because we have no power-draw figures for the tools. The cost of a tool changes with the battery that comes with it at the dealer, which matters for buying, but we leave it out of the picking here.
Frequently asked questions
How does the picker decide which tool to show me?
The weight of each factor comes from your answers only: your job sets how much torque matters (drill drivers) or tightening torque (impact drivers), and how you hold the tool sets how much weight matters.
Does the brand count in the score?
The brand never enters the score. The batteries you own are a condition from you that limits the tools, not a ranking.
What does "official data is missing" mean?
If a key value is not published by the maker, we leave the tool out and tell you. If a minor value is missing, we calculate without it and mark the tool. We never guess a number.
